Base funding from Norwegian Arts Council 2009-2012
Spring 2009 zero visibility corp. was awarded the Art Council Norway's base funding for the years 2009 to 2012. This represents a great recognition for the company and choreographer Ina Christel Johannessen. The basic funding is of great importance for the company's artistic development and possibilities. Several projects and guest performances had not been possible without this basic funding;
• production and touring of NOW SHE KNOWS
NOW SHE KNOWS with the great assembling of 18 female Nordic dancers, has been performed 15 times in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Mexico since the premiere at NorrlandsOperaen in May 2010.
• a 14-day showcase of 4 productions at the Théâtre Silvia Monfort in Paris in November 2009 and the new production NOW SHE KNOWS with the premiere of the NorrlandOperan in Umeå 6th May 2010.
NOW SHE KNOWS - production and touring - (2010- 2011)
zero visibility corp.'s production, prosess and touring of NOW SHE KNOWS, is a concrete example of a positive result of the base funding. The production is historical and represents the biggest dance creation ever produced in the Norwegian non-institutional performing arts field.
The size and structure of the support schemes (excluding the base funding) means that the size of dance productions often are similar - from solo / duets to works with a maximum of 5 -7 dancers. This represents a conformity of dance expressions. Dance works of larger dimensions, with many dancers in a large composition, is reserved for bigger companies, which often represent a more homogeneous group of dancers linked to the same conventions in dance expressions. The Norwegian contemporary choreographers don’t get the chance to work and explore the larger format, working with 20 dancers or more. Also the audience misses an important part of experiencing what contemporary dance can be.
With receiving base funding for the years 2009-2012, zero visibility corp. and Ina Christel Johannessen, wanted to expand these borders within the project NOW SHE KNOWS.
In the project zero visibility corp. gathered 19 Nordic female dancers from Norway, Sweden and Finland.
The base funding made it possible for the company to apply for Nordic funding, which demands a significant percentage of other funding/equity. As a result the project has been supported with approximately 1. mill. NKr. from Nordic Culture Point and Nordic Culture fund.
The project represents a unique collaboration between different dance artists, institutions and the free performing arts field. Zero Visibility Corp., as a small independent company, has been heading this big collaboration. Co-producers were: Carte Blanche, Dansens Hus in Olso, Dansescenen in Copenhagen, Helsinki Dance Company and NorlandsOperan in Umeå.
NOW SHE KNOWS has this year achieved international success - both in Germany in May and in Mexico in October. Both places the piece was met with great interest from the press and received excellent reviews:
In Germany the renowned journalist Evelyn Finger from DIE ZEIT chose ZVC and NOW SHE KNOWS to discuss and write about the festivals topic, truth and beauty.

zero visibility corp. and Ina Christel Johannessen at Théâtre Silvia Monfort,
Paris 3. - 14. November 2009
For a 14 days period, in November 2009, 4 different choreographies of the company were presented with 8 performances at Théatre Silvia Monfort in Paris.
3. and 4. November: …it’s only a rehearsal
6. and 7. November: It was November
10. and 11. November: THIEF- AFTER – Clip 0 (zero)
13. and 14. November: I have a secret to tell you (please) leave with me
These 8 guest performances, with 16 people on tour, were a big administrative and artistic challenge for the company, which would not be possible without the base funding. Artistically the presentation at Théâtre Silvia Monfort was a success. A total audience of 1300 people visited the performances, and the company was met with positive interest, both from other dance programmers as well as in French newspapers and media.
A result of the guest performances is a closer collaboration between the Théâtre Silvia Monfort and zero visibility corp. The theatre will be co-producer for the company's next production for 2011 by including a residency period at the theater.
